### Select the default organization language

Your default language is the primary language all Kustomer features are set in. This will also be the fallback for any automation when a translation or snippet is unavailable.

**To set your default language:**

1. Go to **Settings**![](https://cdn.kustomerhostedcontent.com/media/570fad9d9001bc1000163b28/0f59178c361e83097cc2b55ee52bb015.png)**\> Administration****\>****Localization**.
2. Select the default language for Kustomer from the drop-down menu.

**Note:** Changing your default language after setting up translations and text snippets in Kustomer may result in errors. It's important to check your settings to ensure they're configured correctly.

3. Select **Save**.

### Activate additional languages

You can activate secondary languages in Kustomer to use in text snippets, which automatically translate text based on your customer's language.

**To enable additional languages:**

1. Go to **Settings**![](https://cdn.kustomerhostedcontent.com/media/570fad9d9001bc1000163b28/370a90e08f9d8b83567cc995e2f021d6.png)**\> Administration****\>****Localization**.
2. In the _Language Activation_ section, select the **Deactivated** tab to see a list of all languages that can be activated.
3. Select the toggle to the right of the language to activate it.
4. Once you activate your additional platform languages, you can determine if they should also be applied to Chat, the Knowledge Base, and Snippets. By default, activated languages will be activated for those three areas and customers can see the text in the specified language. If you want to deactivate one of them, select the checkbox for the language and area.

### **Troubleshooting: Translated snippets not displaying in chat**

If your snippets display in the default language instead of the expected translation within a chat assistant, verify that the target language is activated for the chat channel. Each channel requires its own language activation. Activating a language at the organization level does not automatically enable it for all channels.

To activate a language for chat:

1. From the left navigation, click ****Settings****.
2. In the ****Settings**** page, click ****Platform****, then select ****Localization****.
3. Find the language you want to enable and verify that the ****Chat**** toggle is activated.
4. Click ****Save****.

After activating the language, refresh your chat assistant to confirm that translated snippets render correctly.

### **How browser language settings affect the Kustomer interface**

The language displayed in different parts of Kustomer is determined by different settings:

* ****Kustomer agent interface (sidebar and navigation):**** Displays based on the organization's configured language settings.
* ****Chat widget:**** Displays content based on the end user's browser language preferences.
* ****Knowledge Base:**** Falls back to available languages based on the visitor's browser language settings when content is not available in the preferred language.
* ****AI tool names:**** AI tool names within Kustomer AI are not translated by the platform. They appear in the language they were originally created in.

If an agent sees unexpected languages in the interface, verify the browser's language preference settings. In Chrome, go to ****Settings**** > ****Languages**** and confirm the preferred language is listed first.
